How Long Does It Take To Achieve High Rankings?
How long it takes to achieve high rankings is the million-dollar
question. Like all business owners we want immediate gratification.
We want it now. With a pay-per-click (PPC) program such as
Google AdWords or Yahoo Paid Search you can have it now.
It will cost you, and cost you, but business owners can it
now with PPC. But, after a while of having it now, and paying
for it now, the paying for it now starts to overwhelm many.
This is why so many people turn to SEO in the first place.
Search engine optimization (SEO), in general, will provide
more traffic at a lower cost in the long run. But, what many
entrepreneurs don't understand is that SEO is a long-term
endeavor with a longer timeframe to getting high rankings.
When people turn to SEO in order to achieve higher
search engine rankings they are usually anxious to get
started and begin receiving immediate results and cut down
or cut off their expensive PPC program.
But, the search engine algorithms don't work this way. Older
sites are more trusted by the search engines and will generally
receive quicker results than newer sites. But, the competition
for keyword phrases also comes into play.
Just because one has an older website, does not mean they
will automatically receive top rankings for new pages they
put up, even if they are optimized. Links needs to be added
that point to the new page and some "aging" needs
to occur for the search engines to accept, index and rank
the page properly.
In very competitive fields such as home loans and health
sites major keyword phrases may be beyond the reach of many
smaller businesses. Alternative phrases that are less competitive
will need to be used to achieve higher search engine rankings.
So, while the question of how long does it take to get a
site ranked is understandable, the answer to the question
is not black or white, since there are many "gray"
variables to be considered.
