Banner Ads - Paid advertising
Search engine optimization is not the only game in town.
Since the Internet was first developed, people have been thinking
of ways to use advertisements on the Web to gain target traffic
and make sales. Banner ads are one alternative to do just
this.
Banner ads on different, relevant websites can attract targeted
traffic for specific industries. In fact, the 468 X 60 pixel
banner ad has been so prolific and so standardized that in
recent years visitors have become "ad blind" to
this particular size and shape.
So, banner advertisers have created all sorts of different
sizes and shapes to combat the phenomenon of ad blindness.
Banner ads come in several different advertising models as
well including cost per impression (CPI), cost per click (CPC)
and cost per action (CPA).
Banner ad impressions are how many times the ad is displayed
to a visitor. CPC banner advertising is how many times unique
visitors click on the ad. And, CPA involves a unique visitor
not only clicking on the ad, cut taking some action like filling
out a form (lead) or buying a product (sale).
Banner ads offer visual elements also that text only ads
do not offer. Some banner ads are even offering Flash graphics
and video as part of their visual appeal. Remember, SEO has
its place in online marketing, but there are also other avenues
that need to be explored as well.
